That has nothing primarily to do with the size of the house. There are people who swear by a closed kitchen, while others love exchanging with guests at the kitchen island while cooking. I find a balcony totally unnecessary, while others cannot imagine a house without a balcony. The same applies to the basement...

The input that the utility room is too small for hanging laundry and the cloakroom is not optimal due to storage hazards, as well as the size of the upstairs hallway not being necessary, and that the kitchen island should be rotated by 90°, is very helpful.

However, the design is by no means disastrous.

Yes, it is. And that has nothing to do with the kitchen being closed.

The cupboards on the right side, if I interpret it correctly, contain the oven, microwave oven and/or/or not microwave, maybe also the fridge. And with that, it’s turning into a small gym again. For me, it’s right next to the peninsula, so I don’t have to walk around it to get to the oven. The fridge there is more convenient if you want to get a drink, but when cooking, I have to run a little marathon for every item. The island itself is barely adequate if the cooktop is centered there. Then you have neither enough workspace on the right nor on the left to prepare anything. The workspace at the bottom side is divided by the sink – that could be better too.

That is a lot of space, but used poorly. It’s possible, even for a closed kitchen and a separate dining area (which I admittedly generally find suboptimal – but if someone wants it that way, then okay) much better!

I always find the office as part of the bedroom stupid. Looking at work again before going to sleep – even sleep experts will tell you that is really bad. If there are data that no one else should see, then I make myself an office that is NOT a guest room (and if I remember correctly, no guests for sleeping are indicated anyway), but not the office as part of the bedroom. Such an office I could even lock.

If someone wants a balcony, fine. Even though everyone here confirms that when you have a garden you hardly ever use it. Such a thing is at most used by teenagers when they are nursing their existential angst and want to shut themselves off from the world. Otherwise, I don’t know anyone. But this one? A tiny square where just barely a chair and a table fit? And for what? Why? From the dressing room??? Honestly, I haven’t seen a more useless and pointless balcony than this one.

But here we are imagining again. The original poster hasn’t commented further. Maybe it’s not supposed to be an office after all, but space for a love swing and St. Andrew’s cross – then the connection to the bedroom actually makes sense!

Just because an office is in the bedroom doesn’t mean you have to think about work again before going to sleep. Anyone who uses their company phone privately and receives emails on it would have the same problems. The small balcony can definitely make sense if, for example, you are a smoker and want to have a smoke right after getting up or before going to bed (which is supposedly quite common, I’ve heard). Everyone also knows the problem with smelly clothes due to food, cigarettes, or similar. I also like to hang my suits outside to air them out with this in mind, because I don’t send them to the dry cleaner every time. For that, the balcony has THE perfect size. Accessible through the dressing room can make sense if the balcony is occasionally used by the children as well. Then they don’t have to constantly go through the bedroom or the bathroom. The kitchen, in my opinion, results from TS’s previous experience. At that age (40 years), you know what you need and want, and EVERY woman focuses on the kitchen when building a new house. The island is not too small. I would place the stove on an outer third so that there is enough countertop space. So that will work, even if admittedly, the layout does not meet my taste either.

Definitely not, because many don’t even know what needs to be considered during construction to ensure a functional kitchen fits in afterward. I also find the kitchen in the floor plan very strange/impractical.

what does one have to do with the other? You don't need construction knowledge to imagine your dream kitchen and know what you want. My wife has no idea about building but knows exactly that she wants/needs x base cabinets, x drawers, x wall cabinets, etc. Many American kitchens look similar.

There are many people who do not realize that a dream kitchen is not always a functional kitchen. Or who do not deal with cabinet widths and row spacing beforehand, and then it does not fit in as expected.
