As far as I know, you have a bungalow inhabited by two people. If a family with children lives on 2 floors in several closed rooms, that is a completely different story. In this respect, this statement is too general for me, and before I would build a fence, an expensive garage, or other things, I would first invest the money there. What is really "necessary", that is the real question here again and again. We could probably live here in our open-plan house as a couple without controlled residential ventilation and also without air conditioning, and yet I would do both again. Is an air conditioner necessary? No, but great that we have it. Ultimately, everyone should, and this happens far too little, freely consider their own needs and then decide accordingly. In this respect, everything is necessary or unnecessary. In fact, I once turned off the controlled residential ventilation for a few days, and upon our return, I did not like the smell at all; the controlled residential ventilation usually brings fresh air quality into the house. Depending on personal living situation and lifestyle, it also works well without it, no question, but in a classic single-family house with children living in it and often also animals, controlled residential ventilation would be at the top of my list.
