I feel the same way... and have actually implemented it exactly the same way myself... 2x24 patch panels, 1x 24-port switch, and 1x 8-port POE switch, which by the way is louder than everything else in the HAR... I don't even want to imagine what kind of noise a 48-port POE switch would make...

I wouldn't do things halfway there, but rather buy one decent switch right away. In home networks, it's usually hardly about any enterprise features, but mainly about a proper Poe configuration. I have had very good experiences with the ubiquiti edge Switch series. Their WLAN APs work extremely well with it and are very good for covering a multi-story single-family house.

By the way, we treated ourselves to a Cisco Managed Switch SG300-28 (whose potential is by far not fully utilized, but whatever...). If I actually ever use PoE, I’m currently leaning towards the injector solution. We have 28 ports in the house, which currently cannot all be plugged in at the same time.

77.willo, 48 ports in one RU is in my opinion an enterprise feature. High density must be paid for. The mentioned Ubiquiti switch starts at 800 euros. For what?!

I simply got a 24-port switch from TP Link unmanaged at home. It should be more than enough for the home area. I have only used half of the ports so far. However, all 23 outlets in the patch panel are occupied.

--> I only need a "simple" network switch (without much extra stuff)

--> I have often read that daisy chaining switches can sometimes lead to problems

--> I have to take a closer look at this manufacturer (didn't know them before - thanks for the tip!)

--> if you could, would you want to use all of them? Do you get annoyed that you always have to repatch things?
