It's not truly photorealistic, and I definitely still need to practice (especially with the lighting), but I think it's good enough for presenting, and it's free and can be learned fairly quickly: I use SketchUp in conjunction with the Twilight plugin. Attached are two amateur designs.

Hello Mihoe, I read your initial post and some of the following answers... I admit, not all of them.. So apologies in advance if something is repeated...

At the beginning, I had exactly the same expectation as you. To visualize a few drafts so that you know in which direction the future house should go..

I came across the software Sweet Home 3D and just started drawing on the MAC... I was immediately impressed by how intuitive it was to use. And the best part.. I saw results right away. That sparked my ambition.. In the end, I spent practically every day for a year working with the program. Very important.. constantly reading in the forum and help sections. After about half a year, we decided between 2 main drafts for the single-story version and for another half a year I optimized. Tried again and again, virtually moved our furniture, visualized... Then left it for a week... got back to it... and kept making improvements.. I found the visualization extremely helpful and could imagine everything very clearly!

With the final floor plan, we then went to a construction company with the best recommendations. They then delivered us such great drawings of our draft that we immediately hired the construction company.

Best regards Steffi

Ok.. linking to one's own website does not seem to be allowed... so I will directly post some pictures of our 3D visualizations with Sweet Home 3D here...

Patience is one of the most important ingredients in "fertility treatment" as a homebuilder. Anyone trying to optimize the draft three times in one week will find themselves spinning in circles at high speed. I personally also recommend regularly inserting "analog" sketchbook phases in between, even as a 3D program user.

I would really appreciate it if you took the trouble to compare these drawings with the pictures (photos) of how the same areas actually turned out in the end. Conversely, I recommend that builders train their sense of implementation by "practicing" with a current survey of their existing apartment.
