Klinker facade vs. plaster facade

We love brickwork and will have our bungalow clad with bricks. In our area (East) this is very unusual and we were glad to have found someone to do it. The savings from the plaster roughly go toward the higher BP. Otherwise, our offer amounts to a good €33,000 with the bricks from Röben Moorbrandt- sandgelb-bunt.

I inquired back then (2020) with our general contractor for a stone from Röben. He obtained quotes and offset them against his savings. Result: approximately €65,000.

He couldn’t believe it himself at first and checked several alternatives. It remained the same. Therefore, I now have plaster as originally ordered.

It was not supposed to be a typical general contractor rip-off; these were actually the incoming offers for materials, masonry, and installation.

I would also mention the appearance. In the area where I work, the development plan prescribes brick facades because there used to be a brickyard there ages ago (although these are rather uncommon in the south). Some houses look good, many average, and with some you can just see that only cheap imitations were glued on and no consideration was given to how the house looks. Long story short: if then do it properly and not the budget option ;)

Appearance is rather the advantage of brick for me. :) But as always, it’s a matter of taste. I envy everyone who lives in a beautifully brick-faced house.

I would prefer to use tiles. In our city, there are really beautiful, colorful, and tasteful facades that are tiled.

If it's well done, then yes. You can find quite a few in the North. But when I think of our old office... pale red obvious imitations combined with blue sheets... a white plaster facade would have been better...

Personally for me: I would have done without many things in the new building, but not without [Klinker].
