We were also at what felt like 100 kitchen stores during the house construction and ultimately decided on the probably somewhat more expensive option of having a kitchen made by the carpenter. I would do that again anytime, as we had no problems with him, we also already knew him from a few other things he had done in the house and therefore knew that he is reliable. Besides, the kitchen is now 100 percent exactly how we wanted it.

I'll give some feedback on the kitchen purchase topic. We are done with the subject.

We chose Bosch appliances and researched a price online. We got a similar price from a local Bosch premium partner: total cost for everything: just under €5500 (cooktop, oven, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, extractor hood).

Furniture at Ikea would cost just under €3000 + €1000 for delivery and assembly. So the minimum price was set accordingly. Just under €10,000 sounds like a lot at first, but a kitchen is very important to us and will be used intensively. The appliances could probably be reduced to about €3000 if you use no-name products or choose a ceramic cooktop and leave out the extractor hood, etc.

Well, then came the offer from the carpenter: he doesn’t cut the boards himself (would be way too expensive at his hourly rate) and sent our plan to a large company where he gets good prices. The end of the story: almost €9000 just for the wood, panels, hinges, and countertops. Oof.... He also wants to make a bit of a profit, so we ended up around €15,000 *ouch*

Then we tried several kitchen studios. Always tried to choose the same layout and keep the materials comparable. The first prices were always overwhelming... from €20,000 to €28,000 everything was included. Wow... after 1-2 intense negotiations, we always came back to the area around €15,000. So up to that point, the carpenter was ahead.

Finally, we inquired at a kitchen studio (a solid 4 hours of planning), which cooperates with our house provider. We received a voucher for lunch at a nearby pancake house *yum* and after filling our stomachs, came to the final invoice. A dream kitchen planned, appliances worth almost €6000 included, and now the price was coming. I wanted to run away already because I was scared: after all, they even invited us to eat.
The price on the sheet was €19,000. But then came a so-called builder discount of -€6000 and we also had a €2000 voucher there that we received when signing the contract. End of negotiations, a neat €10,000. That’s how I like a kitchen purchase.

That is probably the best option to be really 100 percent satisfied. Everyone should do it that way, also so that the "carpenter profession" does not die out Hardly anything is more individual.
And in the end, you'll surely overlook the price... *I hope*

If you want to save money properly, you can of course also take a look at "gebrauchte Küchen im WWW". Whether you find something suitable nearby for pickup is rather a matter of chance. But if you do, it's worth it.

@marokko: I’ll just say directly what I think. In my opinion, your link leads to nothing, I might as well look on Ebay.

Saving on a kitchen requires careful planning.

Electrical and plumbing connections are, for example, crucial.

I also want to point out that things like the sink, tall cabinets, wall cabinets (also due to door hinges), baseboards, as well as the countertop, etc., simply no longer fit with “used” ones.

On top of that come costs for transport and assembly.

Is it really worth it?

When buying a kitchen, one should also take a look at those furniture stores that one might not normally go to for buying furniture. That sounds strange at first, but they also have kitchen departments. Ultimately, the same kitchen brands are sold as in other furniture stores and kitchen studios.

Only the price is sometimes significantly lower. From this, one can again conclude – confirmed by the huge price markups in kitchen studios mentioned at the beginning – that in these special stores, everything is initially outrageously expensive and only those who ask receive a slightly lower price.

Because we didn’t want to play those games, we ended up at RO..ER. Lo and behold, they also have kitchens from the well-known brands. The price was good, as was the assembly service. We chose the built-in appliances separately anyway, as we had concrete ideas there. Even here, the additional cost compared to the bargain-hunting stores was limited.
