Kitchen - missing cabinet - Is withholding justified?

If the relationship has been good so far, I would simply ask your kitchen studio what procedure they suggest. Any normal straightforward thinking person wouldn't say: "Just pay everything, we'll finish it later." I think something like this will come from them: you should pay everything except 10% (or even 5% for all I care) and the rest will be settled at the end. I also find 500€ rather little, but of course it depends on the total price.

We have now accepted it. The kitchen builders pointed out everything that was defective to us on their own - things we probably wouldn't have even noticed. They are replacing one side panel because it has two paint runs. And a shelf because it has a small damage inside. And the missing cabinet.

Oh thanks for the compliments. =) The countertop and backsplash are made of simple chipboard. I wouldn’t have dared to go for real wood. The model is a Sylt from Nobilia, it’s a country-style kitchen with matte lacquered fronts. The whole kitchen cost €20,400, but a large part of that was for the somewhat more expensive electrical appliances and the sink. Hob Bora Puxu, 2 dishwashers, large fridge with 0-degree zone, oven with pyrolysis, all from Miele. Sink & faucet from Villeroy & Boch. Sounds a bit posh, we actually wanted Bosch appliances again, we were always very satisfied with them. But the kitchen dealer apparently had contracts with Miele and said he could offer them cheaper than Bosch/Siemens.

I can understand that. There is nothing nicer than enjoying a kitchen. I always think it’s well-invested money. You spend a lot of time in the kitchen, every day you spend at home.

Edit: Update to the actual thread: I just paid it all at once. They called me the very next working day about the reorder and a time frame, and then I thought that a renowned kitchen builder in the region would hardly ruin its good name over a bit of chipboard from Nobilia. =)

.. sometimes you just have to listen to your gut feeling. I did that 17 years ago too.

Actually, the part above the oven opening should be a bit lower to match the standard wall cabinets. The kitchen manufacturer messed that up, because the drawing still fit
... and with framed fronts, this kind of thing really stands out. The kitchen fitter actually called from this construction site back then and presented the solution an hour later .... everything will be installed and new wall cabinets ordered, which were then made a bit higher. This way I could already use the kitchen and didn’t have to replace the expensive special cabinet (tall end panels, etc.), only the wall cabinets. I then paid everything right away.

... the frame strips were at the same height.
