I was actually referring more to the children :D

They don't come at the push of a button either!

A friend of mine was also planning a house build and the child was supposed to come 1 year after moving in. It took 4 years until the child arrived. Mainly because she still didn't feel ready for it.

For us, the thought was that it would definitely take forever until it worked out and I got pregnant in the first cycle right away..

You can plan however you want, 1. things turn out differently 2. than you think

Oh... It took 32 months here. I wouldn’t wish that on any couple. One of the worst phases of our marriage. The second one then happened right away. Let’s see when number three comes, but only after the construction

Or the child doesn't settle in or has other difficulties. Usually, things turn out differently than expected.

I am aware of that. But at least in our daycare, the younger children take a nap at midday. About 2 hours. That means effectively it was 5 hours that the child experienced in daycare.

But as I wrote above, every family has to decide that for themselves. The balance between children, finances, maybe even joy in a job or a career... every family finds their own balance.

And honestly... if parents (often mothers) are supposed to give up everything... hobbies, career... because it is selfish to even have a few wishes yourself, even when you have children... (and having to earn money for that or even working because the job is fun...) I understand why many don’t want children.

Please, there are limits in every direction. In our daycare, they once issued an appeal to the parents to take some time off with their children! Apparently, there were children who were brought every day the facility was open. That is crazy! I find that unimaginable. But total deprivation for the children... that is the other extreme.

Then we agree. Consistently bringing the children is also a reason for fixed closing times. In Hamburg, they have somehow made it mandatory that children have a right to minimum vacation. ....and it is by far not only the working professionals who fully utilize the times.
