Is staircase DIN 18065 mandatory or not?

The 250 cm cannot be adhered to with regard to the standard. We acknowledged that and therefore extended the wall to 305 cm.

We tried stairs with 23-30 cm tread depth. As long as the stairs have no risers, that is completely fine for us. (even in old age)

Even though I am impressed by the reasonable ceiling thickness, there is certainly still potential for reduction in the clear height of 278.

Can you explain your statement a little better? We have planned a small house and would like to keep our room layout if possible. You are all right that the DIN standard should be followed considering many aspects. But isn't it okay then to find a good compromise?

We thought so too, but unfortunately we have to subtract the 20 cm ceiling beams again. So we end up at 258 cm.

Everything has already been subtracted from a clear height. If you enter wrong values into the stair calculator, nonsense comes out. Which room layout to "keep"? - if the layout was based on false assumptions, the calculation does not work and escapes the option of "keeping". As far as I remember, we still do not know what the planning is here at all. Did you try to reduce a catalog model?

What good are the 60/70cm more if you have to put a bed of about 2sqm like your neighbors on the ground floor or use the couch? A proper bathroom will probably not be available on the ground floor either – you will be dependent on the upper floor in a small house.

Then show it. Maybe you can be advised on a good location so that it doesn’t matter at all?! Many houses are planned with unnecessary stuff and corners and vacant areas. Often some trimming is possible.
We don’t know beforehand how bad it often gets, even though we are healthy. My husband slowly staggers on the stairs due to health reasons with stops, I myself appreciate the stairs after foot surgery and numerous ligament stretches. For a year now a dog keeps running under our feet.. many neighbors now have hip or knee problems. Only crawling up is probably easier with a steep staircase.
