Factors such as lighting and handrails also play a role. Being able to place your foot fully when going down simply provides more safety. Especially if you slip or stumble. We are now going to change our stair lighting, because the nice LED mood lighting is a nightmare for declining depth perception. When I go down the stairs at night, it’s like flying blind. Oh, and our parents, all around their late 60s, no longer use our stairs because they find them too steep.

Now I can understand you better. Actually, we just tried to realize a wooden house with our budget. A glass front in the living area and an open design were important to us.

Actually, yesterday I spent 5 minutes in the stairwell at my work... everyone stepped on the "half foot," whether going up or down. The stairs measure 19/26 cm. It’s definitely nice in old age to be able to step completely with the full sole of the foot in a relaxed manner.

That sounds like a sensible and at the same time beautiful idea! I am already looking forward to details.

We actually have it very similar. Our staircase also protrudes into an open room. Only in our case it's the living room, where you have the kitchen. We access the staircase from this side. The staircase is an open room divider for us. Why shouldn't it be allowed more length?
