we did order it and the electrician said it wasn’t necessary..

It’s a 30 euro surcharge for us, but having is better than needing, or how was that :D

The surcharge is well-invested money. If you really need to cover all sides, then 8 cables come down (2 per string) + the grounding cable. It really gets tight with a 32 mm conduit. It is also important that your electrician installs the conduit as vertically as possible.

From what level of electricity consumption/demand does it make sense to install this?

There are only 3 of us and according to the bill, our electricity consumption in 2020 was about 2200 kWh. This includes about 7 months of continuous home office, which is no longer the case now..

Honestly, your electricity consumption is not a criterion that should be used to decide for or against photovoltaics.

The photovoltaic system must be profitable solely through the income from the feed-in tariff, the self-consumption is then the cherry on top.

but the income from the feed-in tariff must also be taxed, right? Somehow I think I read something about that.. Thanks for your explanations!!

Regarding the topic of tax treatment, I am unfortunately not the right contact person as I lack knowledge in this area; I will seek help from a tax advisor myself.

Perhaps someone else from the forum can write something about this.

We will proceed for tax purposes in such a way that we get the VAT refunded on the system and, in return, have to pay tax on our own consumption.
I will have the concrete procedure explained to me by the tax advisor.

According to my layman's understanding (please correct me if this is not correct), I only have to pay tax on profits, and a taxed profit is still a profit. So, from my understanding, this would not be an argument against a photovoltaic system.
