Hedges and trees preferably underground using drip tubing or better root bubblers. Water not in the evening but in the early morning hours before sunrise.

Is there any functional reason against [nachts]?

Yes, the soil is not yet quite cool and above all the grass remains damp for too long which promotes diseases. It is not for nothing that, for example, dew is removed on golf courses. During the day, more water would be needed because the soil is warm and the sun is shining (higher evaporation).

In the early morning, everything is cooled down as much as possible. The plant or lawn benefits more if it is watered in the morning during the day. After gave the tips last year, I avoided using the mat and, as recommended, used sprinklers, bubblers, and drip hoses. My lawn is supplied by Hunter MP rotators. Our multi-stemmed serviceberry (4 m tall) received 4 bubblers around the root ball. The hedge (30 m) and the perennial beds got the Rainbird XFS drip line. If I hadn’t installed irrigation, I would have had to spend half of my summers watering in the future. I am familiar with the sprinkler discussion from acquaintances here, too. But that’s really too German for my taste. Every rectangular Gardena sprinkler that most people set up and run just before 10 is louder. Watering has to be done anyway. The question is just what bothers your neighbors more. You watering every other day from 8 to 9 pm with all the fuss or sprinklers at 6 am that run controlled and certainly quieter.

OK, at the time of year when I have to water, "just before sunrise" is still early enough before the insect hotel inspection teams are out and about.

Well, then I'm glad I don't have to water all day long even without irrigation.
