Thank you very much for your answers.

If it is normal and happens now and then, it makes little sense to order the garden landscaper. So no need for large vehicles like bulldozers, wheel loaders, and the like. More likely to rake by hand and so on. It will probably be cheaper and more practical, especially if you have to do it several times.

Does anyone have an idea how to do it? I wanted to use a long board as a "ruler." What do you think about that? Better ideas?

Best regards

[emoji23] I wouldn’t work in the garden with a ruler. Roughly estimating should be enough. Once the lawn is there, some areas underfoot will feel different anyway, as the grass can often grow in clumps.

You must be under pressure from your wife )

Mine is always nagging too and I'm constantly leveling things out. She then always complains that there is soil between the lawn. But without soil = nothing is level. Lawn is a tough school

You should wait now for a year (and especially a winter with frost). The soil is still settling. Later, you can fill the depressions with a mixture of soil and sand/small gravel and, if necessary, reseed the lawn there. Otherwise, the lawn will grow through as well.

By the way, grass also raises the soil a little bit over time... This is relevant at the transition to paths or terraces. You might want to consider it when leveling.

Until then, only regular mowing is important (possibly fertilizing in autumn).

Conclusion: After filling and leveling non-native soil, a heavy rain shower should be awaited, as I already mentioned. Of course, moistening can alternatively be done with a water hose; that's how we did it as well.

When the surface is dry again:

1. Rake smooth
2. Sow grass seed
3. Roll
4. Sow grass seed again
5. Roll again
6. Water

Definition of watering: Apply enough water in several passes so that the soil is moist to a depth of at least 5 cm, preferably 10 cm. However, no puddles should form! If watered too little and only the top 1-2 cm are moistened, the grass will develop shallow roots and remain weak! The grass can be watered twice a day during hot weather.

Our gardener asked after 4 weeks where we had bought our sod. But I already had a lot of experience with sowing... summer job as a student!

PS: Mowing: Not before 4 weeks at the earliest, too thin blades are destroyed by mowing. At least once a week, twice during the main growing period. Never cut more than half the height. The lower you mow, the more side shoots the grass produces and the denser it becomes.

Do you have your own roller? Is there something like that available as an accessory for lawn tractors?
