I would never want to have it like that unless the room is massively sound insulated and large. Normal houses (under 200m2) usually do not have the conditions for that. Normal bricks are not enough for that. The noise of the dryer and the spinning always annoy me. In the basement with the door closed, it is mostly quiet in the ground floor.It is comfortable to have the washing machine on the level where the laundry is generated. In the shaft, you only save carrying it down. You still have to walk down and carry it back up... I would never put it in the shower. It will never be permanently sealed. It also looks awful.
