In which direction should country house floorboards be laid?

Yes... I somehow also prefer the drawing lengthwise. Crosswise it looks restless and small. But I think it will be different in reality. I will lay a few down and see.

I also gave this a lot of thought "back then". The rule to lay lengthwise to the light incidence comes, among other things, from the time when one wanted to avoid the joints on the long sides of parquet boards or laminate from standing out too much due to the shadow formation in the joint. In times of V-grooves, this "problem" is actually no longer one, since the groove is supposed to / allowed to be seen.

I would always
- lay long rooms and corridors in the longitudinal direction; these determine the direction in the floor/building.
- lay throughout the whole house or at least by floors in the same direction.
- only pay attention to the rule about the light incidence if the laying direction is not predetermined by the geometry of the room.

In our case, both the light incidence and the room geometry indicated a laying direction. Especially in long corridors, it really looks bad if wide boards are laid across. Believe it or not, the corridor appears wider when long, wide boards are laid lengthwise.

So in your case, I would not primarily consider the light incidence but rather follow the room and your gut!

Thank you for the contribution. At the moment, I am more in favor of the longitudinal version (so perpendicular to the window). It looks more harmonious to me in the pictures. It might be a bit more complicated to cut, as the boards then need to be adjusted longitudinally and not transversely at the radiator.

I have the same "problem" with the living room. I have a large window front there. From an aesthetic point of view, I would say that it should also be laid transversely there. I will post the room here for opinions.

In the hallway, vinyl in tile format 60x30 will be installed. There, I actually wanted to lay it transversely..

How is it actually with starting. Most of the people I have spoken to started on the left in a corner. But isn't it dependent on which side the groove or tongue is on? In the Haro Disano installation instructions, it says to start on the right in the corner. Since the groove is on the left side, it can't be any other way, otherwise you can't click the board in from above. Am I seeing this correctly? I'm just asking because many write that it doesn't matter where you start..

Start on the right
Once you have laid a few boards, you can also stand on the already covered area and therefore lay from the left if you prefer that...
As you have noticed yourself, the tongue and groove system determines the direction of installation, but you can choose your own position when laying... clear, right???

So..I have now arranged the bedroom lengthwise (perpendicular to the light incidence) and am satisfied with it.

Now it's time for the living room with integrated dining area. Here I also tend to prefer the lengthwise version (by that I mean horizontal in the pictures). It would then again be perpendicular to the light incidence through the large window at the top middle (approx. 3.6m wide, 2.2m high). On the left and right of the room there are still skylights as well as a dormer window.

The crosswise (vertical) version is a bit odd in the hallway area, right?

Just realized that I can't upload the pictures..will be added later
