Now I have to register here after all. I found the thread through Google and am quite glad that we are not the only ones with this problem.
Since May/June 2012, we have had an IKEA kitchen with the small domsjö sink and the Elverdam mixer tap.
Small Domsjö means: The Elverdam sits directly on the countertop behind it. And the Elverdam wobbles. At first just a little. But now it wobbles quite a bit. I have been reluctant to fiddle with it so far, but it’s getting annoying and might break otherwise.
You write that the gray part is not necessarily needed. Does that apply to the large Domsjö or generally?
Because I know he didn’t install it because it didn’t fit anymore.
("He" was, by the way, my father. He put the entire kitchen together for us. I (actually) trust him more than strangers doing the installation. He is a master electrician and renovation expert. Unfortunately, I can’t have him look at it myself, as we are usually 800 km apart as the crow flies.)
Edit: Looking at the little picture in the manual helps a lot. Found the answer about the gray triangle – it’s not supposed to be on there at all.
Now I just lay under the sink and this is what I found:
Not so nice. Rubber slipped out of place. And I don’t know if my father messed up while drilling or if the wood around it was scraped off by the loosely sitting metal...
Later:
Not perfect either, I know. But because of the unevenness, the rubber slips when tightening, no matter how firmly or carefully I hold it :-/
Because of the chipped wood, the metal part now does not sit flush on the wood after *loosening, adjusting, tightening*, but partly stands off. And I think in the long run it will wobble again through use.
Therefore, I think it would probably be better to get a 65 or 70 mm washer at the hardware store and put it between the wood and metal/rubber so that the unevenness is covered and any movement does not make it worse.
Other ideas or suggestions are welcome.
