Hello,

our architect explained to me how the clinker brick is supposed to rest on the basement wall structure (currently the basement walls are built with hollow bricks).

Another engineer, who regularly builds clinker houses (because it is customary locally), gave me a different description. Both claim that their method is correct.

I would like to find out here whether both variants are possible or if one of the two variants is absolutely wrong. In the latter case, please provide a constructive explanation.

In the attached picture, I have depicted the two variants that both colleagues described to me.

The left sketch shows the variant of our architect, the right one the variant of the mentioned engineer. In the right variant, the clinker facade is supposed to be pulled down about 30 cm below ground level for frost protection. The architect criticizes that the clinker at this point could become damp.

I also want to visit a local manufacturer for clinker stones among other things soon and get separate advice there.

Thank you very much for your opinions.

Here I have found the following document about a brick manufacturer, which, however, depicts two-shell masonry on a slab without a basement. However, I think this could be applied analogously to the basement ceiling. Accordingly, the architect's version would also be confirmed here again.

Actually, I know that links are not allowed, but arrogantly I still posted some (apologies for this). I previously found the mentioned document about the manufacturer Röben in the download area. Other manufacturers might also possibly provide articles.

That is both wrong, I think. Both versions have a thermal bridge towards the basement. In both versions, the important horizontal sealing is missing. Furthermore, the drainage of the air layer will occur at the level of the perimeter insulation, as it is sketched. Is that sensible?

The basement is part of the heated envelope for us The horizontal insulation lies on/above the basement floor slab.

That's not what I mean. The clinker is cold and in the sketch it has direct contact with the cellar masonry which is not further insulated.
