It could be an option, but it's not for everyone. You should be handy and must invest a lot of time alongside a full-time job. If you also want to spend time with your little child, then you can pretty much forget it. And even if you manage all that, you either have a double burden or live in a permanent construction site. Neither is really great, and in this case, neither is recommended financially nor because of the little child. There are simply situations where building or buying a house is really difficult to realize. And even if everything went smoothly, it would still come with many restrictions.

Everything is doable, we are doing it right now too. Working Monday to Friday, Saturdays and vacation days at the house. Set realistic goals, push yourself, persevere, and have imagination; don’t let setbacks stop you. If you don't see that as an option, you have no pressure to suffer, then it isn't important enough to you.

The prices in Deggendorf, Straubing or Viechtach are quite different again. In the surrounding area, after a first search, you can get a more or less slightly in need of renovation little house for 300 k€.
