That’s making me blush! Lots of swearing and complaining and constantly pushing myself, you have to imagine that ;D.

We do our best. It really is a lot, but somehow it always works out :)

Edit: Our main phrase, however, is "oh, it’ll be fine like this". So it’s not always that loving either :D

My sentence that I’ve been hearing myself say more often lately: "that’s just how it is now..."
I totally understand you, but your result is more than impressive :-) Keep your chin up!

We were busy again, all the beam ends, top window sills, and sacrificial boards are on the house.
For a short time, things were a bit off (just kidding).

But then everything was straight again.

Fullwood was kind enough to give us a little extra work by delivering the sacrificial boards too long (as if we had nothing else to do ;)).
Without sacrificial

With sacrificial, way too long. How we were supposed to use the pre-drilled holes at the bottom is a mystery to us :D

Our trusty Kapex came to the rescue and we shortened and installed everything, impregnated, stained, and waxed it.

And now it fits perfectly.

Outside, everything is finally painted and installed except for the porch roof, we were able to cancel the scaffolding this week (though the scaffolders are still on vacation until next week).

Since our electricians were on vacation without informing us, the screed heating phase couldn’t start yet. But that’s okay, we’ll just continue inside for now. We’ve started insulating and adding a vapor barrier to the roof in the first room.
Not really fun in this heat ;).

Before

Midway

First in at the top, then measuring the gap

And stuffed the rest in.

We decided on ThermoHemp (even though we don’t like the recycled PET inside, we couldn’t find anything without it that private individuals could order). The mats can be cut to size above a certain quantity. We had that done for our usual rafter spacing. Unfortunately, the mats are quite soft and tend to "puff out" a lot. That’s pretty annoying because then they don’t hold as well and fall out. We had to fix them all with extra nails. Extra time and effort... In photos with wood fiber insulation, they always sit like a dream between the rafters/in the wall. Ours are bulging like they’re pregnant ^^. And before anyone thinks extra centimeters for a snug fit were forgotten, no, the rafter is 63 and the mats 65 cm.

In the knee wall at the bottom, there’s again packing hemp for the small corner.

We actually wanted to finish this, but we still had to clear away the entire scaffolding, I wanted to clean the fixed window elements from the outside before the scaffolding was removed, and the site manager (our dog) also wanted attention. The lake was also calling pretty loudly on Sunday evening.

And since we’ve decided not to wear ourselves out anymore, we’re taking it a bit slower now :)

dreamlike. I do envy you a bit for the choice of materials ... next house I will do that even better ... But I wonder, why did you cover the rafter ends with sacrificial boards. That is rather unusual - isn't it? I would also find the exposed ends visually nicer ;)

Yes, otherwise we are also very satisfied with the material we installed.

The end grain is a weak point where water can theoretically penetrate the wood and cause major damage.
That’s why there is a sacrificial board; the board can be replaced / sacrificed to protect the end grain.
Even though it was impregnated, glazed, waxed twice, and treated with an extra wood seal.

At first we also found it nicer without, but now we like it after all. We thought there must be reasons why they supply the sacrificial boards. But other Fullwood building families, for example, did not put them on because they didn’t like them.

That looks really stylish, are there more pictures of the house here? I really like the brickwork. Why is the front door red in one picture and anthracite in another?
