That sounds harsh / heartless, but with ... ... as a businessman, I really can't see it any other way than very similarly. However, I would justify it in an understandable way, along the lines of "we think we should plan a little budget for it, partly to change intact things as well, to give the house a different aura."

Oh, pardon...

Unfortunately, nothing more could be done about the purchase price. Not a cent. She is not the sole heir and the co-heir insisted on this purchase price.
After we slept on it one more time, we said, ok, come on, we’ll take it for 330k. Then we didn’t hear anything for two days and then received a WhatsApp message saying someone else had offered 340k, asking if we would match it.
But we didn’t want to, because
a) in the end it was still too close to our written prefabricated house offer including reserved land, and
b) the bank had valued the property at a maximum of 300k during the financing discussion.
The heating in the house would also have been due for replacement in about 2-3 years. The windows aren’t exactly the newest either, etc.

Better to go for a new build and take advantage of the KfW subsidy, with the knowledge that definitely no one has hanged themselves in this house yet.

It’s a shame, but somehow it also feels right... a very strange feeling. Some of you might know what I mean.

I thank everyone who participated so actively in the discussion here.

For me, that would be okay, especially since there was a follow-up. She can do it, but then I would know that I'm out, especially since I was already uncertain before. Who knows, if you had said yes, then the other would have followed up, etc. For me, that would really be fine now, and I wouldn't have the feeling that I missed something.

I think it's better that way. Six years ago we bought a piece of land near where a dead baby was found 45 years ago. However, we didn't know about this at the time of purchase. If we had known, I probably would have backed away from it.
