Locking does not happen motorized, but mechanically; only for automatic unlocking is a motor needed.
What you are writing there is half-knowledge.
There are locks that lock mechanically by the latch hook, like the catch, engaging mechanically when closing. This is essentially the cheaper and the method you hinted at.
In the method of ours and the one I described, a motor drives the bolts and latch hooks fully into the lock. When opening, the whole thing is mechanically opened by latch pressure or knob turning.
