That you even had to do a study on that. Of course, the significant increase of scattered light from the floor leads to brighter rooms – who would have thought. And I am actually very much in favor of studies.

But we do have balconies!

This is also about floor-to-ceiling windows on the upper floor, in case you have been following the discussion and have read the initial post

We have only 2 floor-to-ceiling elements in our "old-fashioned" house, namely the patio doors. We were laughed at and sometimes put down because we didn’t want floor-to-ceiling windows everywhere but windows with a parapet.

In the meantime, many of those who first laughed at us have changed their minds because they now either stick the windows shut, put blinds in front of them, or have furniture in front of the windows.

Upstairs, we simply took 55 cm as the parapet height, with dimensions of 1.70x1.60 or 1.20x1.60, and we have wonderfully bright rooms; the boys love sitting on their windowsill and putting things on it.
And downstairs, it’s simply cozy for us that the sofa completely disappears behind the parapet, and in the kitchen and bathroom a parapet is also practical ^^

But in the new development areas here, you almost only see floor-to-ceiling windows as well, but I’m not surprised when I remember what we sometimes had to endure during the planning.

Beautiful plants cannot be placed on the floor; that only works if they are at railing height?

Also in the bathroom: what is so wrong with looking out at the snowy garden in winter by candlelight while sitting in the bathtub? That only works with a floor-to-ceiling window, or the bathtub needs a 50cm platform.

I mean: either the bathroom is visible (street, neighboring houses, ...), then you need privacy protection, no matter how high or low the windows are, or it is not visible. Do the ladies walk around naked in a visible bathroom without window privacy screens "I don't care, there are no floor-to-ceiling windows anyway"???

Those who have not planned properly must end up placing their furniture in front of the windows: nicely put the wardrobe in front of the normally high window, or hang the TV there. Again, this has nothing to do with the window height: windows planned in the wrong place = bad, windows planned in the right place = good.

There you have already found the mistake. Some may find sloping roofs cozy, but in terms of freedom, spaciousness, and the feeling that it is a bright room, sloping roofs are counterproductive.

Well, some find sloping ceilings very pleasant when it comes to coziness, e.g., in bedrooms. But I can reassure you: this is about affordable living space in the single-story area – not everyone is attracted to the mainstream city villa.
