Thank you! By the way, I am also thrilled with this dreamy view and envy you!

But do I understand correctly * or is it just my wish that it were so? * that you managed the solution WITHOUT a railing but WITH a key? Because I wouldn’t care WHERE exactly the key is inserted, whether at the window handle or at the bottom edge of the window as in the hallway photo from Nordanney.

I don’t want to spread half-knowledge and (warning wordplay!) not lean out the window too much, but where and how you can lock the window, I think doesn’t matter. Other factors play a role here. Federal state, number of residential units, i.e. building class, laminated safety glass and certainly the interpretation by the building authority. For such questions I would ALWAYS inquire there.

Oh, BaWü - from the view I would have thought more of CH. Although, in a way, there is "both" (BÜS) :-)

Search for "hausbauhelden ravenna Helma" on YouTube. And then minute 21. Do you want it like that? I can’t imagine that this is such an unusual request or that there are any building law issues if they even install it like that in the show house.

Yes, that would be okay for us. Thank you for the link.

If I were a building inspector and could warm up to a builder's idea, I would always prefer, when questions with some room for decision arise, to not get something explained too precisely at the decisive moment or not look too closely, rather than explicitly granting a written permission to a citizen's written request, for which I then have to take responsibility for years. I can’t gain anything from it.

The examples here in the thread show that there are completely different interpretations of the same regulation even among the citizens/builders.

It would now be interesting, in addition to the few EXPERIENCE reports of successful implementation of railing-free windows, to receive at least one where the building authority did NOT cooperate. Where there was fuss made during the acceptance.

In the commercial sector, we have already had to retrofit windows. But due to [Arbeitsschutz], of course, it is examined more closely.
