In my opinion, the point is not to look upwards while eating or talking at the table, but to create a more open feeling.
Personally, I find it quite awkward when you plan an open space above the dining table and it is not even aligned with the other person. One half sits at the edge with the ceiling, the others are indulging in the outlet.
Aside from the fact that the lost space here could rather be used by the kids.
Unfortunately, there is also a wall on the upper floor (kids' room wall) in principle of the "open space," which unfortunately reduces the size and effect of the open space. It is basically just a shaft upwards here, without a gallery or mezzanine.

On the other hand, there is the statement #22. How it actually appears is probably not so easy to estimate and also depends on building materials etc. I agree. Such an air space is a real luxury, and if you build it, you probably don't want to make compromises. In this case, however, the living quality of the children is sacrificed while one continues to indulge in luxury. This is really not meant disparagingly. After all, there are many children who would be happy to have a room of their own at all. I just wonder if the parents forget during planning that the sweet little ones will, in the foreseeable future, no longer explore only the 2sqm around them but also want to invite friends, need a desk with a computer, their own clothes, maybe a hobby – and so on. Is the attic then really the suitable answer? I also want to mention that such an air space is not only nice to look out of but also quite nice to look into. No problem with spacious plots. But here it was explicitly emphasized that the development is dense. So not only does your own family look all the way into the marital bed, but the neighbor as well. The missing gallery also makes – as Yvonne already mentioned – the luxury a bit of a wannabe project. Overall, I find the wish understandable and okay; in this case, however, the design does not really convince me. Maybe they will try a bit more with other stairs etc.

Your approach already looks good in #28. Was that with a basement? Then I would probably take the straight stair option in #28 (turning once is also straight for me ;)), separate the living area more, turn the stairs 180 degrees so that you come out in front of the new air space. The basement would then be accessible from the hallway. Move the stairs more to the left on the plan overall… to make use of the space. Much more could be done in the kitchen area, I don’t like Katja’s furnishing there either, but there is enough space to try things out.

I once posted a photo of my airspace.

I still think it’s amazing, and the biggest effect is when you’re sitting at the dining table. Although ours is only halfway underneath. We have a rug under the table and wood stacked by the fireplace, which also works well for the acoustics.

But I agree with the others – the view and the insight should fit if you have such generous glass surfaces.

That fits too. and basically, that’s what we are aiming for with the arrangement of the airspace. Also, the dining table light in your house hangs from the regularly high ceiling. But in this design, you are practically sitting in a narrow tower, which is emphasized by a light fixture like the one hanging in your place as an eye catcher.

The floor plan brings back memories :)

I agree with my predecessors. I can relate least to the upper floor, but it doesn’t have to appeal to everyone.
