The street to the east is not heavily trafficked, but we imagine it’s nicer to look from the living room into the garden (west) than onto the street or the "front yard."
Well, I’m going to burst your illusion of looking into the garden from the living room: in summer, you are on the terrace, and otherwise often in the garden as well. You are in the living room when the garden is dark. Even in winter, when everything takes place indoors, you are at work during the day, and if you’re at home, you tend to go about your daily business or watch TV rather than stubbornly staring into the garden.
