Funding for the guest area was also the architect’s idea. The differently high garage doors come from our requirement that a box van (2.40m height) should fit inside.
We also don’t like the office between the bathroom and bedroom; we would prefer the bedroom there, but the bed doesn’t fit sensibly into the room :(

Yes, that's correct, it surprised us at first too. However, the door in front of the stairs is only necessary if the guest room is separated for funding purposes. Otherwise, the door in front of the stairs is not necessary.

Exactly. We would prefer a wide gate for both vehicles without a post in between. However, this is not feasible with the height and the house offset above, hence this compromise.

Thank you very much for your answers! Our biggest concerns currently are:

1. The living room has a lot of unused view and sun, the terrace and kitchen perhaps too little. If the kitchen and living room are swapped, the living room is no longer separated. How do you assess the sun exposure on the terrace, dining room, and kitchen? Bright enough or will one regret constantly sitting in the shade?

2. Office behind the bathroom in a strange location, bedroom on the sunny side. A swap is not possible in this design because the bed does not fit into the small office room. Even if it is enlarged, one would have to walk through the dressing room to get to the office, which is also strange. If necessary, we would leave it as it is, but it would be a pity to sit in the back office all day while the empty bedroom has sun and a nice view...

3. No wardrobe in the entrance area. There would be space under the stairs, but probably too low. We are considering moving the wall opposite the stairs slightly into the garage to place a closet there. However, this is probably expensive (load-bearing wall) for a small wardrobe.

You probably haven't read much of my usual praise for the architect yet. What I would like to change most is the framework conditions, but this is not a wish concert.

Yes, as strange as it sounds: otherwise, only the second residential unit would be separated, but not from the first one ;-)

Thanks to the situation for this suggestion of separate gates. Double gates are only needed if "Mr. & Mrs. Couple" want to get in and out like synchronized swimmers as in American movies. But this gag gets boring after the third repetition.

The most important point is missing: the budget doesn't fit. Tell the architect your wishes so that he changes it. This is how it works: draft, discussion and criticism, improvement or new planning. The last sentence is a report.
