Ahoy from the North,

I hope you can help me or give me advice.
We are in the fortunate position of being able to build a bungalow because of the size of the plot (1000 sqm) (27m x 39m).
I have tried to put this into practice and hope for help, ideas, or also criticism.
This is the first draft; the appointment with the architect is in 2 weeks. Nevertheless, I wanted to get something down on paper beforehand. Overall, it’s not really about the hard details yet but primarily whether the planning makes sense and what might be changed or needs to be.
It was/is important to us to separate the children’s area from the parents’ area. The utility room is close to the kitchen and guest WC with shower, as my husband sometimes has to go on emergency duty and may need to shower.
I have fitted the living room with a sliding door, but this could also remain open to loosen things up a bit. I think with a bungalow the biggest problem is always the hallway, as it is usually very dark, but on the other hand, you don’t want to waste too many square meters on hall or corridor.
I don’t want to write or babble too much here but just ask around for your opinions?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards

you want to send your children to a bathroom where guests also go to the toilet? There are often very personal things there, not to mention the usual daily stuff. I wouldn’t want that. Living room without a window? Utility room without a window?

@ Alessandro, whether my children use the "guest toilet" or the master bathroom, which in case of doubt might also be used by guests and where personal items are kept, is not even a question for me. Utility room without a window, unfortunately it can't be done differently because of the garage. The living room has floor-to-ceiling windows next to the large glass sliding door, so there is plenty of light.

@ icandoit, I only have the term from the hallway map, No. 257.

My first association was "fox den." The walkways are long and winding – for example, from the kitchen to the front door you have to go either through the living area or the utility room. Some passages are very narrow – e.g., from the kitchen. In the furnished version, it looks as if the vehicles are the most important thing. A double bed is about the size of a car hood, the vehicles seem very large, and the dining table, on the other hand, appears small – it is worth a precise check of the dimensions – the narrower the house, the more important this is.

Try an approach with a side entrance between the carport/garage and the house. That could solve many problems of the design. For the children's rooms, it would be nice in a bungalow if both had access to their own terrace – especially if they are somewhat larger. Give the children a more western orientation and refrain from some “location prominence” of the bedroom.

By the way: houses can be rotated on a plot if a parallel position to the street is not prescribed. This can sometimes make better use of the cardinal directions.

I wouldn’t have interpreted it that way, but rather seen a family bathroom.

A bungalow has the advantage that daylight can also be let in from above.

The living area is shaded by a wall. Despite the large windows, hardly any light gets in there. Even during the day in summer, it will be rather dim there. If the design should remain as is, then definitely plan for light from above.

I am missing not only measurements but also explanations: why does the child’s room on the right side have an L-shape (surely not just to make the wardrobe too small) and why does the bathroom have a recess at the door of the other child’s room, when the location and dimensions of the entire house are flexible; and does the municipality really want to continue the uncontrolled growth of escape lines like this? If it is supposed to be only 140 sqm, the degree of interlocking is too high and the walls are shown too thin.
