The general contractor explained it to me by saying that building the gable involves extra effort ... I can't refute that and would have to pay at least 9k more, since the hip roof with a 25-degree pitch is listed in his scope of work ... Another general contractor would have charged me "only" 7.5k for a masonry gable ... The third would have installed the gable at no additional cost – using timber frame construction ...
