One always sounds like “grandma telling about the war,” but what I have most often experienced in my environment: when children are there and you belong to the middle class, women do not work full-time anymore. Because logistically it often doesn’t work. And the man often earns more. The only ones I personally know who work full-time with children have grandparents nearby or have daycare centers that also care for 10 hours. The costs for children are also underestimated by people without children, especially the costs of school-aged children. And re-entering a qualified position after x years of childcare usually only works in the teaching sector. Even administrative civil servants are still often sidelined if they dared to have children. Therefore, the mantra “you are young and have good jobs…” should be taken with caution.Overall, I agree with the issue regarding children. On the other hand, the two are still very young and have good jobs. When we started over a year ago, many thought our 5000 net for 470k was borderline because we didn’t have children yet. By now, we have 6000 net and can save a lot extra until children come in 2-3 years. Then there might be a few tighter years, but in 10 years you can work more again, and inflation alone has probably already turned the 6000€ into 7000€. So overall, I do think it would work for you too. Of course, nothing big must go wrong then. And you have to mentally cope with the mountain of debt.
