Who is too lazy to switch from the 52ct basic supply probably still has light bulbs everywhere (+30 years of reserve bulbs stored), the freezer chests inherited from grandma running continuously, and outside fountains splashing in the light of the 500W halogen lamps.

Well... we consumed 2,850 kWh in the last billing period up to May 2024. But you have to take into account that the kids are still small and don’t have a TV, laptop, etc. in their room, only a CD player and a Toniebox. Outdoor lighting is only being installed now, a submersible pressure pump for the cistern with 1.1 kW was only added a few weeks ago... then also outdoor cameras, some ambient lighting for the paths and on the terrace. We will probably have to get a second fridge as well and then all the stuff you need for the garden when it’s finished... lawnmower, trimmer, who knows.

I don’t think we will fall below 4,000 kWh in the next billing period.

5-6,000 is of course a totally different number... but 3,000 +/-100 kWh/a for 4 people older than 10 years in a single-family house? Hard to imagine.

My ex with three children (teenagers) in a 160 sqm house: total consumption (gas, no heat pump, no e-car) under 3,000 kWh – that includes 3 TVs (one of them a powerful plasma – what a great picture, but off topic), four PCs, various Alexas, garden, etc. And of course also, practically daily three loads of washing machines plus dryer loads (riding kids who always come home with lots of dirty clothes). In addition, the fridge-freezer combo, a separate freezer, and a lot of cooking plus the dishwasher afterwards.

Very easy to imagine, for example if all 40 lamps have LED bulbs. Unimaginable to consume well over 3,500 kWh in the household. Wouldn’t know how.

Thanks that there is finally someone who thinks like this and has kept their feet on the ground despite having a single-family house.

Here in the new development area, people have all been driven crazy by the photovoltaic people, saying that you consume 6,000 kWh... it just looks great in the creative accounting.

The three of us also rarely exceed 7 kWh for household electricity despite a lot of washing machines and luxury goods. And that even includes the auxiliary power for the heating.

In addition, daily dishwasher, small aquarium switch every or every other day dryer and washing machine.

You just have to act a bit smarter and avoid pointless waste here and there.

I had a maximum of 1100kWh electricity consumption, that was in the middle of Corona with homeschooling. Of course, we cooked more with the stove and dishwasher usage. In 2022, we were then deliberately economical and ended up with 900kWh. We: me and two kids older than 10 years, who partly live with their father in a shared custody arrangement. We are out of the house during the day (school, work). No dryer. I only have LED lights in the house. I am often amazed at how much electricity others consume.

Me too, especially how much electricity the two of us use here.
But I can also directly see three jumps in long-term consumption: Almost 100% working from home after changing employers resulted in a noticeable increase. When I stopped playing organized sports regularly, there was also a significant(!) increase (instantaneous water heater, previously showered in the gym 3 - 4 times a week). Then the acquisition of the terrarium (heat lamps 12/24 with 150W + lighting). Pond pump, chest freezer as additional continuous consumers not found everywhere: we have about 5000 kWh/year on the meter. Due to well above-average use of the stove, we have always had somewhat more than the average anyway.
There is no photovoltaic system, the homeowners' association is not ready yet. We are considering a balcony power plant on the garden shed, which could mainly cover continuous consumers through self-consumption.

Just to show HOW it is quite easy to use that much electricity.
