Well, but you also have a special consumer with the terrarium. That's just 1,500 kWh p.a. for the heat lamp. Without it, you are also within (high) normal consumption.

1,314 kWh for the heat lamp, assuming it actually runs 24/7 with the same power consumption. In a leap year, it is 1,317.6 kWh. But what probably was overlooked... for two people.

With 1 or 2 children, electricity consumption increases again. More lighting, more entertainment electronics, more cooking, larger refrigerator or even a second one needed, etc. Then home office is also often underestimated. When I work from home, a workstation, HMI, 2-3 PLCs, etc. are running. You can't compare that with a businessman who has his 13" HP Elitebook with a 35W power supply on the living room table.

I already turn everything off here when not needed, using "Smart Home". But still, with 2 children, including garden irrigation and outdoor lighting that occasionally (not all night 24/7) beautifully highlights the house until 10 p.m., we will definitely never come in under 3,500 kWh, more likely close to 4,000.

With LED, the power consumption for lighting during normal use is simply negligible. One could argue about outdoor lighting, but otherwise it really doesn't make much of a difference anymore.

Children also hardly need any extra electricity. Charging a phone and tablet a bit is negligible like with the light. Later, a few hours of computer use per day will be limited. Do teenagers even want their own TV anymore? Seems surreal.

What really hits hard are the washing machine, dryer, and dishwasher. With four children, the appliances run a lot. Just the four children's lunchboxes and the dishwasher is half full. It now has to run twice a day. Still, I'm at 3.5 kWh.

That’s true and they really are the main drivers. Unfortunately, the woman is the type who washes after 1 stain or 1 wear. I naturally see it differently (of course underwear is changed daily!), and would rather air it out once more and wear it a second time. As a result, we wash significantly more than we need to. And it will be the same for most people: excessive hygiene doesn’t benefit nature or the wallet.

But not for shirts/jeans? By that logic, you would have to change pajamas and bed linen daily. Cooking carries a lot of weight with us because we also make stock ourselves and preserve it, etc.
