I’m wondering the same... our soil boreholes are in the front yard and completely hidden under our path. So zero "loss" of area!

That is what our provider said as well. If there is only 1 borehole, it can be completely built over. There is nothing to maintain there. With multiple boreholes, there is just a small distribution shaft, hardly 1m².

Distribution chamber is not available with us either. Two drill holes, nothing to see. So it remains the same: zero loss of area

Hmm, so the property doesn't have any trees or anything, so that probably won't be a problem for now - but I assume you can't plant anything there or build on it? Which might be a bit of a shame, trees were actually planned. I didn't know that the roots could actually be a problem. Should I contact the manufacturer right away, and then they look at the site and tell me what they would recommend? I already got a great overview above, thanks for that. Regarding maintenance, are the different types of heat pumps also varying in effort and cost? Or how do the running costs differ? I actually found the air heat pump appealing, but with that you have such a box, which – I assume – is directly attached to the house? And many here also seem to like a brine heat pump. Maybe I really need to get in touch with a provider, do you have any recommendations for that? Which manufacturers are your pumps from and are you satisfied? It's an investment after all, so you want something decent.
Regarding the photovoltaics, we probably need to think that through more carefully, I assume you can add it later if you want.

There are also air-to-water heat pumps for indoor installation (not to be confused with an air-to-air heat pump!). No outdoor unit, but the heat pump is overall louder. Installation in the basement is recommended.

Stiebel Eltron LWZ 600 Air Indoor unit is located in the house technology room, not in the basement Noise level is not a problem as long as the door is closed. Background noises may be disturbing, possibly a soundproof door. Washing machine during spin cycle I find more disturbing

In use since February. Maintenance so far not much. Cleaning filters, replacing them and inserting the summer bypass

Ground drilling is not possible here We did not want area Also the question how profitable geothermal energy is for the passive house
