I think it does make sense. Full supply is not possible in winter, but every contribution counts. Even at 10%, the question is always, 10% of how much? And in the warm half of the year, hot water is just as "free" as with solar thermal. Only with photovoltaics can the rest be consumed/sold. Hundreds of liters of hot water in summer are usually not very useful. You can always use electricity.
