Drink crates and bottles? Where have you stored them at your place?

Hello everyone,

we are currently planning our floor plan and are facing the decision of whether to have a pantry or not. So far, we have a storage room where we also store most of our drinks and supplies. Our second refrigerator is also there. We find that quite practical and would like to keep it in the house as well.

But somehow, a pantry doesn’t really fit nicely into the floor plan. We have concerns about the utility room because of the heat. It is surely warmer there than in the rest of the house – because of the technology. That would certainly be less suitable for the drinks and the refrigerator. We also considered partitioning part of the utility room with a wall and integrating the pantry there. That would fit quite well in the floor plan, but does a wall really manage to keep the partitioned pantry cool, or does it quickly become just as warm as the utility room?

How do you handle all the crates and bottles? Where do you store them?

Best regards
Mr. Stein

we have a storage closet. There is a medicine cabinet, a shelf with all sorts of junk (gift wrapping, bath toys), a mop, vacuum cleaner, drinks + milk

we don't have a pantry but a xxxxxxl kitchen. everything can be stored there.

I know that my parents bought and hoarded 5 pallets of canned food

we are past those times

Everything that no longer fits in the kitchen, drinks, cans, etc. go into the utility room (our heating is under the roof). Potatoes or something go into the storage room by the garage. If that is still too warm, I will dig a hole in the garden for a larger clay pot or something.

A cupboard in the utility room should not have a different temperature...

So if drinks are already considered too delicate to be stored in the utility room, what else is allowed to go in there? Either they are drunk at room temperature anyway, so a difference of 2-3 degrees doesn’t matter, or they go into the fridge. Also potatoes ... I keep them in a container in a high kitchen drawer. Or do you seriously store 20kg sacks?

Potatoes should ideally be stored at 8 degrees and always in the dark. But everything is done wrong already in the supermarket. For the fridge, it doesn't matter where it is placed.

You can also simply eat them and buy new ones.

Because it's unnecessary. No one expects something to be shelf-stable for months.

Eggs are the same, no supermarket cools them either.
