Between hoarding up to the ceiling and only buying what is needed at the moment, there is also something in between. I think one should have a certain basic stock at home, and that requires a bit of space.

1-2 boxes of drinks
bucket of potatoes
homemade jam
hand supply of canned goods
bread box
bread machine
ice cream machine
all kinds of baking supplies (bowls, small dishes, molds) on the top shelf
box of sweets

It's built a bit like a refrigerated kitchen cabinet replacement.

No no, a few things MUST always be there: frozen pizza and ice cream, Flens Fassbrause rhubarb, medium water, Coke light, hohes C. We don’t drink beer. Tulip breakfast meat, Meica sausages, Maggi ravioli. In the fridge a proper assortment of yogurt, semolina pudding, and quark. Dan Cake tiger roll and Thy Snitter and Giflar. That’s roughly the basic stock that must be kept.

Sugar - I mainly need it for making jam, for preserving compote, and sweet-and-sour vegetables. Flour is mainly used for baking bread. Yes, and fresh stuff? I rarely buy it. The meal plan often depends on what is currently growing in the garden. Salad is practically available all year round, the rest is either seasonally fresh or frozen, stored, or canned. At the moment, I only have to buy garlic, ginger, lemons. But that also lasts a while. Meat is ordered in larger quantities from the butcher and portioned, then frozen. As I said, I quite dislike going shopping. But everyone has to decide that for themselves – and realistically assess their need for storage space.

This is what it looked like last year in the old storage room. Over the winter, we used up all the canned goods like pumpkin soup, goulash, chicken curry, broths as well as beetroot, zucchini greens, cucumbers, tomato soup, sauces, syrups, jams, etc. Very practical.
