Dream of a house: realistic or just daydreaming?

A house is also possible for singles. Especially if you want to live spaciously and with a garden. If life circumstances change drastically, you can also sell the property if it no longer fits.

Thanks to the high purchase costs, people don’t change properties like underwear after all.

I am now 46 and looking for my fifth place - so far 2 condominiums, a semi-detached house, a single-family house. And yes, when life circumstances change, you simply buy a new house or a new apartment. Why not?

Hello everyone,

oh, so many answers already. Thank you for that!

Then a few more pieces of information:
I live directly in Düsseldorf, buying a property here is of course utopian. Unless you are willing to spend 400k for a shoebox with a mustard-colored bathroom. Since a garden is important to me, that’s out of the question anyway; such properties are far beyond my financial means. Ergo, I am looking within a 40km radius of Düsseldorf.

The likelihood of having children is close to zero (40 and from the female species). The house should be around 120m2 and thus comfortably sufficient for 2 people.

Ideal would be:
Plot: >= 500m2
House: Bauhaus style
Preferably Kfw 40
Garage
And now we are moving into my ideal world: I budget 25k for a pool in the garden.

What do I want to spend, that’s exactly my question, what is realistic anyway? Is 400k within the realm of possibility... or is a house, based on my description so far, generally not realistic for that price?

I have already sought advice, from prefabricated house providers and banks. However, the statements were different, ranging from it fits perfectly to everything is very tight, one shouldn’t go under 500k...

You can certainly debate for a long time about the sense and nonsense of owning a house as a single person, I simply refuse to pay so much money for real estate within the city and buy an apartment outside... there too I have to arrange myself with the neighbors, expect costs for renovations, and a garden is rather the exception. Then it can be a house? Or?

400k for just the house can be sufficient.
Calculate at least €2,500 per m2. Additional costs include [Nabenkosten], garage, fittings, outdoor area...
How much can the plot cost?

You can become whatever you want. After all, it's your own life. Free life advice is gladly given here.

When it comes to financing, I would only make sure that you don't have to restrict yourself when it comes to eating out, vacations, etc.
