Because we need 5.50m of storage space in front of the garage. Unfortunately, our plot is too small for that.

Then it is either the wrong plot of land for the desired house, or vice versa

Nothing can be done about the plot anymore, it already belongs to us. Then it must be about the house: What doesn’t fit will be made to fit!

Which pedestrian traffic are you crossing? Here, every few weeks one or two cars stand in front of the door at most, otherwise I am very happy with my driveway. Quote Jochen: "That also works with a staggered garage. @@Speedy-OTW has that too, as far as I know his GÜ and architect
Why don't you just put the garage door on the street side?" You are absolutely right there. We have a passage between the garage and the house.

Nope, there are theoretical turning circle calculations... otherwise you have to draw the cars to scale on the site plan (where the house is placed) and play around with the maneuvering a bit. That’s at least how I did it with us, rough estimate was enough and we have no traffic problems on our yard when it is used for guests, nor do we have to maneuver back and forth. But we also aren’t afraid to drive backwards. With a garage, that’s just how it is: whether perpendicular or parallel to the street...

The length is not relevant to your question. It depends on the area in front of it.

Marc+Jochen, it’s not that rare after all. And in my opinion it is even more practical because you use your own yard and it is structured by it. Attaching a garage to a house is common, but it usually means longer paths from garage to entrance door as well as boring/rectangular front yard/driveway.

Well, you actually have quite a few possibilities. However, I wonder why the architect made such a drawing. You actually have other more common options. Driveway in the north towards east, garage in NE, trash corner behind it, entrance in the east, and counter the whole room orientation and let light shine into the house from the west.

I also don't understand why it always has to be south-facing. We have our terrace facing west and are absolutely happy with it. Sitting comfortably in the evening with a glass of wine on the terrace and enjoying the sunset late at night, that's luxury (to continue the description by in the parallel thread). In summer, I am glad around midday that the sun does not shine fully on the terrace. And for a lunch in spring or autumn, there is a small spot on the south side.
