In our new development area, every second house has the classic north-south orientation. No question, it’s the most popular (if also the most boring), but we’re all now building our individual sundowner terraces in our northwest corners.

I also see them all, how they (the Southerners) practically keep everything shut tight all day - preferably with classic shutters, which then look really good.

We also have a west-facing orientation and a large walnut tree stands at the end of our property (not ours) - at first I had serious doubts about whether I should remove it in a five-minute moment of fear, but by now I love it because it provides enough shade so that it doesn’t get boiling hot in the living room.

Here similarly. We have a terrace around a corner, a small part rather south, a large part west and we are glad about it, in summer there is shade until about 2 p.m. which we have always used. I would do it this way again, we hardly use the south part.

Yvonne, it’s not about "attaching" a garage to the house, we have that too. It was solely about the issue of rotating it 90° and thus having to maneuver in front of the front door every time. Have fun with small children. Or when visitors park in front of the door and you have to weave your way like in a slalom to get into the house.
