You can do that, it's your heat pump.

But basically no, many of the components inside the device (and partially also listed above) can fail. In addition to the hydraulics etc. outside the device itself.

Here is a picture of what is inside a brine heat pump. Other types of heat pumps basically have the same components, some more, some less.

Here is a domestic hot water air heat pump:

Yes, the Geisha is the WH-MDC05F3E5 from Panasonic. However, only the successor WH-MDC05H3E5 is still available as new.

The advice we received was very contradictory. Our heating engineer, subcontractor of the general contractor, was eager to sell the Junkers air-to-water heat pump and praised it to the skies. However, the general contractor himself recommended the gas boiler because, in his opinion, the pumps are more prone to errors and defects and also need to be replaced sooner and do not last as long. Such a gas boiler, he said, usually serves for about 15 years fairly trouble-free based on human experience, which air-to-water heat pumps do not. Thus, conservative as we are, we chose gas. K.

Sure, anyone who also knows what is installed inside would be very careful to say that the devices are maintenance-free. They simply are not.

For this reason, the manufacturers themselves also recommend having maintenance carried out at regular intervals.

A heat pump is nothing more than an expensive refrigerator, so nothing should break after just 5 years. There simply is no long-term experience.

It's a little bit more, after all. Even the dimensions (performance values) cannot be overlooked. A large and expensive refrigerator only has about 0.5 kW; with heat pumps, we are talking about a factor of 10, which also means that everything is subjected to much greater stress than in a refrigerator, which individually has to cool about 1m3 of air.
