Oh, then you were probably misunderstood – it sounded like an advertisement for the great idea of cheaply "shooting" a house at least on the level of the sixties.

Demolition and disposal costs are greatly underestimated. Most people imagine the "value" of a house at worst symbolically – but that it can reach considerable negative heights is often overlooked. You may be diligent and fearless, have capable helpers and even a buddy with an excavator – but do you also have a buddy with a landfill?

Demolition costs are often overestimated. Wood is cut and burned, the farmer collects roof tiles for free. Bricks can be sold, old copper cables as well. The rest is hauled away. You can rent an excavator yourself. It's not a big deal. Whoever has to demolish today's houses with Styrofoam insulation will be surprised.

uhm, yeah sure. First of all, not everyone can operate an excavator big enough for demolition and still safely tear down the house. You might quickly get a visit from the authorities or even the police. This is not allowed everywhere. Often, a specialized company is required. Especially with very old houses, roof tiles are hardly removable intact anymore. Even the farmer (if you can find one interested) can’t do anything with that. You can only sell bricks if you manage to separate them cleanly. Have fun prying them apart! Copper cables don’t bring much unless you have direct connections. You can’t just burn the wood like that and the trash bin eventually won’t take it anymore.

You can calculate demolition costs between roughly €10,000-40,000. The trend is rising, especially if something nasty (like asbestos) shows up.

So don’t be mad at me, you unfortunately don’t have much knowledge. The roof tiles are usually just thrown onto a trailer so they break. There is no better material for filling potholes on dirt roads. Therefore every farmer gladly accepts it and even provides you with a trailer for free. Old beams are currently more sought after than ever! You can even get money for them. And if not, take a chainsaw and make firewood. For the demolition of an old single-family house, a solid mini excavator is completely sufficient. It certainly takes a bit longer, but no one needs to operate a 30-ton tracked excavator for that. This is the first I’ve heard that a professional company is mandatory or that the police care about it. That’s nonsense. For asbestos, you get the bags and put it in there. The cubic meter costs about 200 euros. That’s not particularly much. Fired bricks with imperial measurements also actually sell very quickly. Leaving them out in the rain for a few days washes off the roughest dust and mortar by itself. In the past, there was very little cement. Scrap metal, no matter what kind, can also currently be sold at top prices. You don’t need any connections for that. The scrap dealer comes with the truck and even loads it himself. No wonder in this country everyone is just shitting their pants!

That's true. Whenever I took scrap out of my house, it was picked up directly from the roadside. Sometimes I didn't even manage to put everything out front before the first scrap dealer had already caught wind of it. I even got help carrying it - old radiators and (water)copper pipes.

That's how it was for me when I cleared out my last apartment and the bulky waste was on the street. Even while I was clearing out, "they" - sometimes with cars - came almost in droves to search through the "trash." Some things were taken, even old mattresses. I thought I wasn't seeing correctly.
