Well, I hope the trouble is forgotten faster than the pain.

Systematically address the defect remediation as described above.
Afterwards, get help. The search, coordination, and alignment of the remaining trades takes time, and expertise is never a mistake.
Don't mention any budget here or to negotiation partners; that concerns only you.
When does the building authority decide whether the basement is approved as is? That is probably the biggest hurdle.

Yes, almost everyone. And the rest of the time you’re then at the construction site. Normal.

Or move further away, yes.

Ditto.
The alternative is what the OP is experiencing here. Is that any better?

I’d call that nonsense.

House construction is a project with a duration of at least 2 years and has priority 1 during this time for at least one of the two parties involved. The role is called the client. You do not give up this role to the general contractor just because you signed a contract, and certainly not in individual trade contracts. Buy a developer or existing property if that is not affordable.

I agree with you, the rest of the time you are on the construction site.

I don't see it that way and it always depends on the circumstances.

Of course that is not better, but it could have happened with other circumstances as well or could have gone well with the right company.

I see it differently. Even with an expert or a lot of time on the construction site, something can go wrong... As a layman, you also have to be lucky to get the right people.

Such nonsense, lately I really have nothing to say about your posts anymore. Is there bad atmosphere at home that you have to vent here or what’s wrong?

3 kids, husband fully employed and stress at work. But your statements about consequences, like how things look at the OP’s home. Some people really don’t have the time to take care of their build, let alone the expertise. And don’t come at me now with the nonsense about reading up on it.

Of course you can build a house on the side and you don’t have to be Rockefeller for that. If you have a good general contractor, you don’t have to worry about anything. Period. Experienced that multiple times in the circle of friends.

What kind of structure do you want? Do you expect the OP to provide you here with a list of all defects? Sorry, but such a demand is totally out of line.

Is that a sentence? What do you want to say?

Then I can’t build a house.

Yes, you can have luck or bad luck. Word of mouth is worth its weight in gold there. Otherwise, you need enough money to finance the bad luck. If it goes wrong, what is your solution then?

Yes, what else does the OP want here? A little whining? Of course a plan is needed at some point on how to get the cow off the ice. But as far as I’m concerned, she can still whine a bit if that helps.
