Yes, only for a nice one ;-)

I think you have to browse through older guides and ask experienced garden enthusiasts: there are definitely cleverly balanced mixtures of what goes well together (and also keep each other’s "side effects" at bay). Problems at the house wall or the trellis or espalier as well as in the soil are mainly caused by "monocultures."

I would probably go with plaster on Clematis. Unfortunately, we have this ETICS... I won't put anything on it. But you don't have that, do you? Then nothing stands in the way of Clematis (except your husband). With spacers that you can pinch off, it would be something for you. The leaves also fall off in time so that the plaster doesn't suffer. But we can write a lot, can't we? Just do a Clematis in a pot with a trellis. You can then let it stand a little away from the wall. By the way, we had a large bamboo in a container in front of the entrance... unfortunately, it froze last winter :(

We don't have any ETICS. Yes, actually between me and happiness with the Clematis there is only my husband. What should one give up now…? :D

Change the positions in this game: make the trellis a men's thing, then he will want it. Let him chrome it or something ;-)

if it should be at the front of the house, how about a (Achtung: spießig) rose arch to grow over. Or do you have a roof over the entrance, you could put a trellis on the side to grow plants on, which also provides some weather protection.
