It would be interesting to know whether you have a single-story or two-story house and what you want to achieve with the lights: show or lighting of paths or something similar. Perhaps you should first question yourselves whether you can live with the light under the roof inside the house without a blind shading the mostly disturbing light through the window (bedroom?). Secondly, try sleeping with light yourselves, just to become sensitive to the topic, how it affects us humans and then also project it onto animals.
However, we built 10 years ago, and back then it was not yet discussed. We have facade lights, partly up-down. We now often leave them off and only turn on the front on special occasions. I think the idea that it does not bother animals is a myth, because after the season there are dozens of dead insects hanging on every lamp. Meanwhile, it has also become quite sparse with light in our area in the dark. A bungalow, diagonally opposite us, has its very bright spots in considerable numbers all around (the resident is an electrician) and shines very unpleasantly for the neighbors all around. That is very noticeable. I think it is good that such considerations are taken into account when building a house, and you are doing just that.
On another page, I have also read that lights with 3000 Kelvin do not attract insects. Does anyone here perhaps have experience with that?
