That's funny, for me it's exactly the opposite: I really like looking at my books and I always look for space for bookshelves in floor plans where I can have them in view.

Well, at least I don't want to lock them away in a room where no one can see them But in the direct/immediate line of sight, I'm afraid it might look too busy

I also dug out my old floor plan app and sketched in some furniture. It's not drawn perfectly, but somehow it actually looks to me like it could work... well...

That was already mentioned and we don’t know what your dream kitchen looks like, but you don’t have space there for a tall cabinet for oven, microwave, supplies... If you want to play around a bit, get the Alno kitchen planner. In my opinion, the kitchen island is also not deep enough. I don’t like that the sofa is facing away from the kitchen. If one person is staring and the other is cooking, it would be nicer to see each other, just as an example. I also think it makes more sense if the dining table is next to the kitchen and not the sofa wedged in between.

Okay, I’ll take a look at this kitchen planner. But sorry if I ask a stupid question again: how much space do I actually need for tall cabinets – theoretically, I could line the whole wall with tall cabinets if I wanted to (which isn’t necessary). Does it require any special space? I had pictured something along these lines regarding cabinet layout (and I’d probably have even more space along the long wall if I’m estimating the measurements correctly here):

Maybe that’s a bit naive and I’m overlooking something important?

Yes, that’s definitely a matter of taste. If I put the sofa facing the kitchen, I wouldn’t know where the TV etc. should go.

We’ll probably rarely use the dining table. We also had one in our current apartment and got rid of it again (or repurposed it as a desk) because we simply never used it. So it might be okay if it doesn’t play such a big role... We’re just two people, after all...

The side with the oven definitely fits for you, but I don't see a U-shape in your floor plan. We currently have a U-shaped kitchen with a distance of 1.80m between the long sides. In my opinion, it should not be less than that, as otherwise you would quickly get in each other's way. That means 60cm + 180cm + 60cm + I estimate another 60cm = 360cm. Then your kitchen would bump into the sofa. If you plan with a kitchen island, the distance should be about 100-120cm, an island at least 90cm deep. If you then plan a bar attached to it, it will get tight again with the chairs.

Yes, the "U" won't work like that, instead the island... but yes, with chairs everything will be tight then. I'm afraid of that too *Annoyed*
