I find it totally crazy how many people here would upgrade to electric shutters.
Me too. I also find it a bit misplaced to come with a house over €300,000 when the original poster probably has to calculate tightly.
We simply consider having shutters already a big step forward. In our new development, half of the people I know don’t have electric shutters, and two families even only have shutters on selected windows.
Similar with us: in northern Germany, not everyone has shutters, maybe it’s 50/50. I was also laughed at here in the forum during our house build because we only have manual shutters on the ground floor and the southern bedroom. yeah, the straps look bad, but you can learn to ignore them. By the way, we also don’t use them anymore, at least not at night!
Outside our new development, several houses were also built with radiators. There was no option to upgrade to underfloor heating at all.
That probably goes hand in hand with Town & Country with gas… and anyone building with a gas heater now has missed something.
Apart from that, we find underfloor heating a step backwards. Previously, a room could be warmed up quickly and nicely cooled again in the evening. Now we have to use electric fan heaters to get it warm quickly.
We’re writing at the end of August 2022: You are probably using it incorrectly. There should basically be a pleasant warmth when it is on. Moreover, the usual habits back then were energy-wasting (turning it up and down/on and off, misusing it as a dryer) and should be reconsidered anyway, even if you have radiators. You also drive a vehicle energy-consciously in everyday life, even if you could abuse it. Acting energetically thoughtlessly is a step backwards. You should think about that instead of mourning it.
