These are just temporary things that will resolve over time. I bet if you had a basement, the bags of concrete etc. would be stored there now and forever. Nothing lasts longer than temporary solutions. Always.

My utility room looked like Dresden ’45 at first. No garden shed yet and the garage was not finished. By now, it fits.

I feel the same way - the utility room has already cleared out a bit over the last two weeks. No - the concrete bags are not meant to be stored there forever. I need the concrete to embed fence posts (fence as fall protection) and this should (hopefully) be processed this year. To be exact, I still need to buy quite a bit more.

Since I have an existing building that has a basement, I didn’t have the problem with the decision. But I don’t really know where I should sensibly store and operate my tools and the more than 10 DIY machines accumulated over time (from rotary hammer to circular saw). Otherwise, the basement still contains the following rooms: laundry room, heating room + room for the oil tanks, storage cellar (mainly for beverage crates and empties, some additional garden chairs that are only needed for larger visitor numbers, Christmas decorations, etc.). One room is actually still unused; it was originally planned as a party cellar by the previous owner but was never developed for that purpose. Maybe I’ll convert it into a larger workshop, but then the smaller room currently used for that would be free. A use will be found for that room as well. A colleague told me today about a friend who built a house without a basement as a single man. Now he is living with a woman and the house is suddenly so full that you can hardly get to the desk in the office because of all the books. And they have no children! One of my brothers is also currently building a new house, with a basement. There are two larger rooms with living space quality, and the rest is apparently intended for heating, ventilation system, laundry room, and a storage room.

You can talk yourself into anything - even a missing basement

To me, this argumentation against Keller sounds very suspiciously like a defense of a decision against Keller.
