Go ahead! I just wanted to point out that people who can afford a basement don't automatically have to give up other luxuries. Our living basement will simply be cool, and I'm really looking forward to it.

I wouldn't know exactly how we could manage without a basement. For example, in our basement, there are:
- kitchen appliances and utensils that are not used very often (raclette, grill, etc.)
- shoes (changed in summer and winter)
- lots of bicycles, pedal cars, scooters
- Flexi-Pool, sand filter system and accessories
- chest freezer and food supplies
- crates of drinks
- wallpapering table and accessories for painting and wallpapering and paint cans
- lots of tools, screws, electrical devices (drill, etc.)
- decorative items
- washing machine, dryer,
- suitcases
- fitness equipment
- several sleds
- ice skates, inline skates, skateboard
- winter and summer tires for the car
- cleaning supplies (buckets, mops)
- steam cleaner
- lots of cleaning supplies for the car
- cleaning agents (for all sorts of things)
- dog toys
- dog blankets
- dog food bins, canned food
- grooming table and clippers for the dog
- table tennis table
- dog transport boxes for the car

and surely some other things that I can't think of right now.
Therefore, I definitely wouldn't build without a basement.

Best regards
Sabine

When we decided that we were going to build, it was clear to us... No basement!!! Nobody needs that.... Well, and now we live in a house on a slope with a basement that is half open and we love it!!!! There is actually a room for the heating system, which is also used as a storage room. But also because we grow vegetables, fruits, and berries in the garden (will) and I process and store it... We have only been living here since this March and already there are 64 jars of strawberry jam, 32 jars of applesauce, and just as much baked apple jam... And it won't be less in the coming years. One room is our sauna/wellness room and one room is still a bike room that will later become an office. There is a side entrance door here and a regular window. A super stylish almost 16sqm south-facing room. We also have a toilet down here. And of course the very spacious entrance area, which is in our basement. Conclusion: We love our living basement. BUT: This very much depends on the property and your own budget. I believe it can definitely work just fine without one!

I used to really want to build with a basement. At some point, I changed my mind. Now we have a large utility room with a freezer, drinks, washing machine, and dryer. I am glad that I don't always have to go downstairs to the basement for these things.
Heating and tools, as well as temporarily the things for the outdoor area, are located in a 27 sqm basement substitute room behind the garage.
But we also had the space. I think the saved stairway and the convenience of not having to run up and down stairs for everything is simply great.
Whether with or without a basement, you should have space for certain things (not junk). The storage space should be planned.
