we currently have a small house 9x9.5m on a small plot of 430sqm with a basement, which is half open because of the slope... and we have not regretted it... in the basement there are three rooms with daylight, partly large windows and an exit. We use the rooms well as an additional bedroom, office, and little workshop.... if none of this were possible - I wouldn’t need a basement! Who needs such a large storage area with 80-100sqm??? And who has that much money??? Things that have stood unused for more than 1 year should be sold/disposed of (-: The new house will be without a basement, since we simply have more land and can bring everything to the light level (-; I don’t need a basement either

The basic prerequisite for a basement is, of course, that it fits into the budget at all. The list was only meant as a "decision aid" that the original poster can orient themselves by.

Whereas point 2 goes somewhat in this direction – if the basement has to be built with a waterproof concrete shell, costs increase significantly and could jeopardize the basement project. Regarding the slope, it should be added that you will have some of those costs anyway: earthworks, removal of excavated soil, sealing of the "earth wall," etc. This relativizes the total costs of the basement and can possibly make it "more interesting."

Tomorrow f-pNo,

I completely agree with you on these points, I did not mean to criticize if it came across that way
It was more my personal opinion or assessment.

I didn’t see it as criticism of the post, but as a supplement.
With the last post, I just wanted to highlight your point again – it doesn’t make sense to think about a basement if the budget isn’t available for it.
It also gave me the opportunity to look at or expand the two points "white tank" and "slope" once again. (sometimes additions to posts come up afterward)

I’m speaking up again & already thank you for your numerous posts!

Yesterday we received the first drawings from the architect & they were already very promising!

The house (semi-detached) will be 8.25*11.5 m (38° gable roof) with ground floor, first floor and attic & the garage 7.5*9 m, so we will get the planned 4 bedrooms (1 master bedroom ~13.5 sqm on the ground floor; 3 children’s rooms ~16-20 sqm on the first floor) and a guest room (attic) in & there is still enough room for my home cinema in the attic. The garage should offer enough storage space to compensate for the missing basement.

I constantly heard from homeowners how I could even think of building without a basement & where to put all the stuff? But after I have now seen in black and white that our ideas are feasible even without a basement & even some extra space for clutter is left, I can calmly do without it.
