Maybe I would still redesign the house... a more elongated floor plan with the living room at the end – so a north-east window front and maybe light strips facing south-east and north-west. Elongated staircase. Something towards Edition-style-City-1000 by V-Brock. But just a quick idea.

Alternatively, maybe a detached conservatory with windows on three sides.

Hm, I also find it very difficult honestly. Do you know how much light you have in the garden/behind the house? We have almost completely north at the back and there is sun in the garden all day. The house itself only casts a shadow about three meters into the garden and the rest is sun... In the east, on the other hand, we really only have a few hours of sun in the morning, but we also have a house directly adjacent there... Hm, I don’t know... If I were you, I might try to make the house even narrower and longer so that it opens more towards the southwest. Above all, I would probably place the garage on the right side of the house, I think. Our kitchen is also northwest and bright, whereas the storage room is northeast and is quite dark...
And the idea of having the entrance from the side I also find to be a very good option, honestly. If a double garage is possible, then you should be able to make it smaller and plan the entrance between the garage and the house???
Then I would place the living room completely in the southwest at the front and the kitchen in the back right in the southeast corner, and the northeast corner at the back left would then, as usual, have the cloakroom, stairs, and guest WC.

I would prefer the first draft. However, instead of the narrow window in the middle of the room, I would add another terrace door like the one in front of the couch and dining area.
Friends of ours have their living room in the north (completely) and their open kitchen in the south with the dining area in the northwest. They have relatively large window areas, and the living room is bright even in winter. Additionally, a lot of light comes in through the kitchen’s south window and the dining area's west window.
Personally, I am not an advocate of the "living room on the south side." For ME, it has too many disadvantages. Our previous house had a west window at the dining table, and for dinner (often already for coffee) we always had to lower the blinds because of the low sun glare. For our new plot, we had the choice of where to place our living room. Our living room now spans the broad side of the house (from the street to the garden) over northeast-south. On the south side, we only have a sliding door, which is covered. Most of our windows face east, where the main garden is. We think it’s good that way. And our kitchen in the south is also fine.

In principle, you can also have light in the rooms from the north - you just have to keep the windows larger. It would then be more diffuse light, and no direct sunlight. If there is a beautiful panoramic view to the NE, a terrace door only one meter wide would be too narrow for me.

Good morning, thank you for the suggestions. It is really difficult, you can see everyone has their own views. We are really torn back and forth. Personally, I also find the floor plan in 11 x 9 better and then with a nice window front facing NE and towards our garden. The thing is, we only get the sun directly in there in the morning and we are afraid it will seem too dark.
