I have the feeling you already know what you want. But it won't be quite that simple and cheap. A proper awning with nice fabric and the technology costs a few euros, especially in this size. has such a sail, which I also find quite nice, but that didn't necessarily cost little either. If I didn't have the money for a really nice solution, I would rather do nothing and wait, because I don't like "half" solutions. You are young, so you can also wait and save. For example, we just bought a particularly fancy espresso machine and have therefore decided to have a staycation; that way the money is roughly available. If you want "permanent shade" you need a fixed roof, but I don't know your lighting situation in the house. We built such a roof here in an affordable version to always sit dry, but we also have more than enough daylight in the house.

We chose this solution also because in case a terrace roof is still allowed for us. Then the crossbar has to be mounted in front, a few more beams added, and then a glass or plastic roof can be installed on top.

By the way, I think it's good and extremely helpful that you are posting a picture. Unfortunately, this is no longer done often here. Thank you!
Maybe a picture from would also be helpful.

I actually haven't decided - I certainly also want to convince myself of an inexpensive awning solution.

The lounge is located in the back corner of the terrace facing the neighbor's garden. However, the corner of the house does not extend all the way to the back, as the terrace has a southwest orientation and is also built around the corner.

Since you have open space to the west, also be aware of the low western sun. We have a vertical awning on our canopy for this, because otherwise we sometimes can't see anything during dinner.

Yes, the west sun is quite low - but based on experience, it is not really the sun that "bothers" us. Food-wise, it has been really okay so far (otherwise we use our umbrella).

We would simply like to shade the blazing midday sun. The picture is relatively old - by now we have placed two umbrellas right at the edge of the sandbox and in the other corner. This way, we manage to shade any sun positions reasonably well - but nowadays it’s also quite annoying to always have to adjust everything anew.

With a roof, we would definitely also install a side awning in the west and possibly even in the east (at least because of the wind).

As already mentioned - basically I am PRO roof - just as I am/would be PRO Porsche... It’s all a question of money.
